The Bozelet Chapel

Explore the southern slope of Champagny en Vanoise via Les Combes to reach the summit of Mont de la Guerre and the Bozelet Chapel. Enjoy a magnificent panoramic view.

Long, varied hike through forest and meadows. Beautiful belvedere with magnificent views of the ski area, the Champagny le Haut valley, the Vanoise peaks and glaciers.

Departure point: gondola parking lot
Duration: 3h30 ascent

For the descent, 2 options:
Option 1 - Return by the same route. Walking time: 2 h15.
Option 2 - Return to the gondola via Chalet Les Verdons Sud - then back down by gondola (check opening days and times).

1/ From the gondola parking lot, take the carriage track up to the hamlet of La Traye.

2/ Turn left onto a footpath (signposted). This then rises (to the right) through the forest and, after a few hairpin bends, reaches the houses at Les Combes d'en Bas (alt. 1470 m); rejoin the carriage track and take it to reach Les Combes d'en Haut (alt. 1570 m). Continue along this track, which returns to the left.

3/ Leave it to take an ascending path that crosses meadows.

4/ Further up, turn right at the crossroads (alt. 1850m) and continue along this path along the edge of the forest and then into the meadows. It climbs up a wide open combe and then a grassy slope to reach a flat spot below the summit of Mont de la Guerre (alt. 2150m). Continue flat on a fairly well-marked track.

5/ After a bend to the left (from here, the summit of Mont de la Guerre can be reached on the left via the ridge - 15min), continue on this track, still traversing. We skirt the ridge and by a final grassy slope, reach the Chapelle du Bozelet (alt. 2276m).

There are 2 options for the descent:
Option 1 - Return by the same route. Walking time: 2 h15.

Option 2 - Return to the gondola (depending on opening days/times) via Chalet Les Verdons Sud - then back down by gondola. Distance: 6km, altitude gain: 371m, altitude loss: 520m, walking time: 2h15.
From the chapel, retrace your steps to altitude 2050m and from there take a wide, well-marked path slightly uphill (north-east); this leads downhill to "Chalet Les Verdons Sud".
After the chalet, take the carriage track to the right (east), then a slightly uphill path through the rhododendrons (mountain bike markings) to the top station of the Champagny gondola.
