Description

A very scenic hike featuring wild landscapes and a high-altitude ridge trail—not recommended for those prone to vertigo.

From the parking lot, head up and cross the bridge in front of the chapel. Turn right onto the wide trail that runs along the right bank of the stream. About 250 meters further up, pass a footbridge on the right and turn left. When you reach Les Combes (where Beaufort d’Alpage cheese is made on-site), walk past the chalet.
At a right-hand bend, contrary to the directions on the signs, leave the trail (which is more pleasant for the return trip) and descend to the left along the grassy path toward Nant Brun. Between the riverbank and the ruins, look for the faint trail among the tracks left by cows. It winds slightly above the stream, weaving between large boulders, then veers away to climb up the hillside
to the Chalet du Fût.
Leave the trail to the left and ignore the tracks leading into the “lavachons” on the right at the same level. Go around the cabin. Behind it, follow a series of switchbacks that lead up above it and then run along a scree slope. When you reach a flat area (the trail isn’t always clearly visible), cross it toward some large boulders and veer to the right. Further up, you’ll come to a wide trail.
Climb slightly. Before reaching the end of the trail, leave it and continue along a path leading into a valley, to the right of the Arête Blanche du Fût (climbing site—information available at the Guide Office). Reach the ridge at a small pass, then follow it to the right until its highest point (panoramic view—2 orientation tables).
The trail continues along the ridge (some sections require caution) and then descends to the right before joining a grassy path. This path leads back to a better-marked trail. Follow it to the left and descend in switchbacks to Point 2. Return via the same route.
