Cycling up Col du Sapenay

To reach this pass between the Chautagne and Albanais regions, there are several possible departures, depending on your level of fitness and desire. And the arrival on this exceptional natural site overlooking Lac du Bourget is a real reward!

From Chindrieux, start pedaling steadily to begin the ascent, with the cows as spectators. Bend after bend on a relatively even gradient of around 8%. There are some great views over Lac du Bourget. Then you enter the forest: what a good idea to have chosen a shady route! The pleasantly surfaced road unfolds under your wheels as you progress towards the heights. At regular intervals, a yellow marker tells you how many kilometers you still have to go. And do you know what? There's less and less! Congratulations, you've reached the Col du Sapenay, the gateway to a vast natural and agricultural area on a balcony overlooking Lac du Bourget. Keep going for a while and you'll enjoy a breathtaking view of the lake and the Grand Colombier. Watch the paragliders soar through the air. Can you reach the bottom before them? Let's go for the descent!
