A musical and visual performance, blending personal stories, oud melodies, traditional Ukrainian songs, and drawings, presented as part of the Festival Les voyageuses - histoires de migrations (The Travelers - Stories of Migration) organized by imagespassages.
This 30-minute performance is a journey through memory, exile, and the passing on of heritage, anchored in the symbolism of the "khoustka" —the traditional Ukrainian headscarf. Blending personal storytelling, oud melodies, traditional Ukrainian songs, and drawings, it evokes the landscapes of a childhood in Ukraine and the paths taken into exile.
By weaving a connection between the floral patterns of the scarves and the flowers found in family gardens, the "khoustkas" become symbols of attachment to the lands left behind and of the quest to put down new roots. The sound of the oud opens up a space of resonance with other cultures and other stories of exile. Gradually, the fringes of the "khoustka" and the strings of the instrument intertwine—like threads of memory—to weave a new place to call home.
Presented by the Sumish collective — comprising artists Eugenia Reznik, Alex Reznik, and Anna Archipchuk — this musical performance combines storytelling, music, and movement.
At the intersection of art, science, ethnobotany, and postcolonial studies, LES VOYAGEUSES Festival is a transdisciplinary project unfolding as an archipelago of exhibitions, lectures, artist residencies, performances, and knowledge-sharing activities. It will take place from September 2026 to January 2027 across various locations in Grenoble and Haute-Savoie.
Local and international artists and researchers will explore human migration patterns in relation to those of plants. Whether natural or driven by human activity, plant migration shares many parallels with human displacement : adaptation to new environments, cultural and biological exchanges, and economic, ecological, and social impacts. Through diverse media — including installations, photography, video, sculpture, and performance — the invited artists examine these complex dynamics. LES VOYAGEUSES thus weaves a sensitive dialogue between the human and plant worlds, inviting us to rethink our connections to the living world and to migration through an approach that is artistic, scientific, and deeply interconnected.
imagespassages is organizing this festival in partnership with Université Grenoble Alpes, specifically the MaCI. These initiatives are part of the "En Résonance" program of the 2026 Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art.
