No More Laughing! Is Political Humor on the Defensive?
With Guillaume Meurice, Lionel Dutemple, and Sandrine Alexi.
In France, making fun of those in power has become a risky business. Over the past thirty years, the most outspoken comedians on television and radio have been systematically neutralized, marginalized, censored, or even fired. In both public broadcasting and private media, the same pattern repeats itself: satire is tolerated as long as it doesn’t bite. As soon as it takes aim at those in power, the mic is cut off. From the sets of Canal+ to the studios of France Inter, through the hallways of France Télévisions, and from the reign of Nicolas Sarkozy to that of Emmanuel Macron, this documentary traces the mechanics of a silencing campaign that speaks volumes about the true state of freedom of expression in French broadcasting.
