The village of Saint-Joseph-des-Bancs
Description
This is a recent village from to the 19th century, builted as the same period as the school was founded in 1860. The village is located on the Col des Bancs, hence its name. Before 1850, all the hamlets on the Col des Bancs belonged to the commune of Genestelle.
Some of old buildings of Saint-Joseph-des-Bancs contribute to its cultural appeal: Old of 200 years old, the Master Nougier's mill (oil and grain mill) still operates today when the flow of the river permits. The remains of the ancient Roman road can be followed as far as the Champ de Mars.
