Description

A hike along the trails of the glacial and tropical remnants of the Lake Geneva landscape, to put current global warming and the planet's natural climatic variations into perspective.
Along the way, students will enjoy magnificent panoramic views of Lake Geneva, the Gavot plateau (morainic deposits), the Pre-Alps peaks (Dent d'Oche, Mémises), as well as views of the glaciers and peaks of Mont Blanc from Mont Baron. These landscapes and the rocks they encounter will provide an opportunity for the group to revisit the questions posed by the 19th-century naturalists and explorers at the origin of glacial theory. Students will work out their hypotheses, discuss them among themselves and compare them with the evidence on the ground. Several stops will be made to explore the following themes: - history and stories of Lake Geneva ; - climatic variations on different scales: geological, historical, contemporary; - the main non-anthropogenic factors of climate variation on the Earth's surface; - the causes of current global warming and some ideas for the future.
