Description

At St-Joseph-des-Bancs, in a magnificent setting, a very old mill with stone millstones, the Moulin de Raoul, is still in operation and every time you visit, the miller turns it and produces flour while recounting the history of mills and millers.
Fabulous opportunity to step into an age-old mill. The guide provides an interesting insight into hydraulics, the working of watermills and the major position millers once held in society. See for yourself how stone-ground flour was made, and learn how walnuts were processed into a press to produce oil. Millstones each weighing some 800 kilos. Very interesting glimpse of life at the mill, as it once was. The guide, actually a relative of Raoul, former miller on the premises and a colourful local chap who was the last of a long lineage of millers. Guided visits in English: advance booking required. Groups welcome. Wheelchair access.
